Split Level House Extension, Leeds

Carrholm View, Chapel Allerton, Leeds.

This split level rear extension was designed to maximise the fantastic valley views to the rear of the house.

Within this split level extension a new open plan, dining/kitchen/snug area opens out the rear of the house as a raised viewing platform across the valley.

A downstairs shower room designed in to future proof potential old age mobility issues.

Initial options explored opening out the lower level and creating an internal staircase to link the house with the lower garden & sun room. Budget constraints led to a revised option which removed this sun room but still maintained the fantastic upper level.

A glass Juliet balcony can be opened in Summer to admire the view and looks over a lovely Japenese Maple tree in the garden below.

The design of this split level rear extension with its amazing position demanded an equally impressive modern design.

Influenced by the Clients Japanese Garden and Zen landscaping the building was clad in a contemporary vertical timber cladding board system.

Finishing this off on the top of the split level extension a crisp metal parapet and glass lantern roof light.

Design Summary:

As Architect for this single storey split level extension in Leeds, we enjoyed how the design reacted to and enhanced its setting.
